Aging infrastructure demands real-time decisions, but operators were drowning in raw data. So we built Commander, an AI-assisted console for edge device management that turns live telemetry into action people can trust.

THE INSIGHT
THE INSIGHT
They didn't want more data. They wanted fewer decisions.

Interviews and a fleet-wide survey surfaced the predictable asks: visibility, faster troubleshooting, unified alerts. The insight underneath them was the one that mattered: every number shown without a recommended action added load, not removed it.
That turned Commander from a dashboard into a decision surface and set the direction for everything after.

The obvious build was an alerts-first console; surface everything, let operators triage. I prototyped it, and in testing operators chased symptoms instead of root causes; the sheer volume of alerts became its own noise problem.
So I led with AI Assist as the entry point instead: it proposes the likely cause and the next step; the operator confirms. The trade, some power-user control for far fewer escalations.

I owned Commander's design system, it grew to 100+ components, and co-developed AI Assist, the LLM automation layer, directly with the engineering and ML teams. The interaction model and the UX evolved together, so we shipped fast and the result was genuinely refined.

AI Assist flags the issue, explains the likely cause, and walks through the remedy, so troubleshooting starts already halfway done.
